what is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.

RSS content is usually called a “feed” or a “channel”. The data for an RSS feed contains information about the content being offered by the owner of such feed, usually in XML format. This content can be the full piece of information or a part of the content while the rest of the content resides on a website. The information contained in an RSS feed can be read by an RSS reader, also known as an aggregator.

Modern browsers like FireFox and Internet Explorer 7, as well as some Email programs like Outlook 2007 are also RSS readers. Functionality is dependent on the reader program you are using. But they work based on the same idea; to offer the user data contained in the RSS feed in an organized way, automatically.

The major advantage of an RSS feed is that the RSS reader pulls the information for the user on a schedule, instead of the user coming back again and again to a site for such information. The user can just see the list of entries displayed on the RSS reader and read/click only the entries that are of interest.

edgarciadesign.com and most other WordPress websites offer 2 different RSS feeds for you convenience, an RSS feed that gives you all of the news posted on the site and another RSS feed that offers you the comments posted by the users.

Enjoy the simplicity of RSS.
